The most experienced hospital-based air medical service in the Tristate area, University
Air Care has been providing Greater Cincinnati and the surrounding region with emergency air transport since 1984. Air Care operates two
twin-engine helicopters, providing service 24 hours a day. Based at The University Hospital, they also use the remote base at University
Pointe in Butler County to better serve the region north of Cincinnati.
Air Care can play a life-saving role when a patient's condition requires critical care
during transport, or when distance, inaccessible locations or road conditions prevent timely care and transport. An emergency medicine
physician and nurse compose the transport team on every Air Care patient flight to ensure safe, quality patient care.
The majority of trauma patients in Greater Cincinnati are transported to The University
Hospital and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati's verified Level-1 Trauma Centers. Air Care can also take
patients to any facility including hospitals in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
University Air Care is part of Alliance Medical Transport Service, which is the premier
critical care medical transport service in Greater Cincinnati. In addition to providing helicopter transport, Alliance Medical Transport
accommodates all other medical transport needs, including medical intensive care unit (MICUs), advanced life support (ALS) and basic
life support (BLS) services.
Accreditation
University Air Care was among the first 50 programs in the United States to be accredited
by the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Services, which is now known as the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport
Services. This accreditation is the highest standard by which a transport service can be recognized. To receive accreditation, the
service must undergo an extensive review. Alliance Medical Transport is also CAMTS certified in BLS, ALS and MICU transport.
