Who can request our services?
University Air Care can be called by any recognized medical authority, including:
Hospitals
Emergency medical service agencies and physicians
Police and fire departments
The general public cannot activate the service, but should call 911 or contact their local hospital or
EMS agency for help.
What information do I need to provide?
When calling University Air Care, be prepared to give the communications specialist the following
information:
Your name and the requesting agency
A brief description of the incident and number of people injured or ill
A call-back phone number, name, and if possible, a
radio frequency the helicopter can use for
air-to-ground communications at the scene
The
location of the nearest 100-foot-square landing site free of overhead obstructions. Be sure to include cross streets and landmarks.
At night, mark the area with flares or lights. Take special care to avoid shining lights directly at the helicopter.
Weather conditions
For inter-hospital transfer of patients, include the names of the hospitals and the receiving
physician
What is the response time?
University Air Care has a helicopter based at The University Hospital 24 hours a day and
at University Pointe in Butler County 12 hours a day to ensure the fastest response time.
Air Care can make a round trip within 150 miles of Cincinnati. Longer flights usually
require fixed-wing aircraft, which the University Air Care Communications Center can arrange. View our Flight Range map.
